Only in Western New York

Lipoprotein apheresis, right here in Buffalo.

When LDL or Lp(a) stays dangerously high despite medicine, apheresis filters it directly out of the blood. We are Western New York’s only lipoprotein apheresis program, so you no longer have to travel for it.

How it works

  1. 1

Blood flows out through a small IV, much like donating blood.

  2. 2

A filter removes LDL and Lp(a), more than half of it in each session.

  3. 3

Your blood returns to you. Sessions take a few hours, every 1–2 weeks.

For patients

  • For inherited high cholesterol or high Lp(a) that medicine can’t bring down enough
  • Relax, read or watch TV during each session
  • Close to home, on a schedule that fits your week
  • We handle the insurance approval for you
  • You keep your doctor. We keep them updated.

For referring physicians

Consider apheresis despite maximally tolerated lipid-lowering therapy for:

  • Homozygous FH
  • Heterozygous FH with LDL-C ≥300 mg/dL, or ≥100 mg/dL with coronary disease
  • Lp(a) ≥60 mg/dL with LDL-C ≥100 mg/dL and coronary or peripheral artery disease

We handle the evaluation, prior authorization and ongoing treatment, and send you notes after every visit.
